Steps of construction:

Step 1: Draw a line segment with a scale of 8 cm with the help of a ruler.

Step 2: Mark the endpoints of the line segment as A and B.

Step 3: From the point, A with a scale of 3 cm draw an arc on the line AB using a compass. Mark the intersection as D.

Step 4: With D as a centre and a suitable radius, draw an arc cutting AB at E and F, forming a semicircle EDF.

Step 5: With E as the centre cut an arc with a radius, that is more than half of the arc length.

Step 6: Again with F and centre and same radius cut and arc intersecting the previous arc. Mark intersection as P.

Step 7: Draw a ray from D passing through P.

∴ DP ⊥ AB
