0.10 g of a metal gave on treatment with a dilute acid 34.2 mL of hydrogen at STP Calculate the equivalent weight of the metal. (1.0 mL of H2 at S.T.P. weighs 0.00009 g).

solution : using formula,

equivalent weight of metal = given mass of metal/volume of H2 liberates at STP × 11200 ml

here given, mass of metal = 0.1g

volume of H2 liberates at STP = 34.2ml

so, equivalent weight of metal = 0.1g/34.2ml × 11200ml

= 1120/34.2

= 32.7485g

hence, equivalent weight of metal is 32.7485g
