1) The sponge is compressible being a solid because of the presence of air cavities inside it. The sponge has numerous pores in it which can be referred to as air cavities, in which air is trapped and on compressing it comes out of the sponge. These pores are the reason why sponge can easily soak liquid into it.

2) Rubber band is also solid as it has definite shape and volume. If any force is applied to stretch it, only then it changes the shape however it regains the shape due to its intermolecular force of attraction. (a) In minute pores of sponge air is trapped.
