Answer:

OVARY is the basal bulged part of the pistil of a flower. It is basically a part of a female reproductive part of the plant.

  • Ovary includes certain ovarian cavities called the locules.
  • Placenta is located inside the cavities.
  • The megasporangia (ovules) arises from placenta.
  • It can be either be one ovule like wheat, paddy and mango or many ovules like papaya, watermelon and orchids.
  • The ovules are attached to the placenta by the structure called funicle.
  • The ovule and the funicle is fused with each other at a portion called hilum.
  • There are two protective envelopes on ovary called the integuments.
  • The mass of cells enclosed within integuments are together called nucellus.
  • Nucellus has a abundant reserve of food and with in it there is embryo sac which is the female gametophyte.
  • The small opening at the tip is called the micropyle and the opposite basal part is chalaza.
