Self help is the best help. It's a well known proverb. It means to say that if you help yourself, without asking others for their help, it's the best thing you can ever do. You should help yourself by yourself. Taking the help of others, isn't always reliable. Others will do your work, but half - heartedly But if you help yourself, you know the importance of your question and you'll work hard to get your help.
For example,
Karan has a very difficult maths problem in his homework. He goes to his best friend and asks for help. His friend solves it. The next day, when he showed his homework, it was wrong. That day it was the same problem. This time, instead of going to someone else, he sat down for many hours thinking about a solution. The next day, miraculously, his answer was correct.

The proverb means that the best way to solve your problem is to do it yourself. Generally you need help when you are in a trouble or you are unable to do your work.
If your seek help from others and wait for the help to come, it may not come for a long time. Your situation may get worse. Even if they come and help you, your work may not be done in the way you want. Further, you may not learn the good techniques to tackle such a problem again in future. We become lazy, impractical and dull if we depend on others to solve our problems.
On the other hand, let us depend on ourselves only and try to do our work ourselves. Then we may not solve it in the first attempt. But with persistence and determination we can solve it and learn a lot in the process. We are able to solve the same problem in future too. We gain confidence also.
Of course some times we need help from others. But your must seek an external help only after the self help fails. Many great achievers with disabilities have proved this point.
