it is done by taking a potted plant and keeping the half of the it's leaf in koh solution which absorb co2 and another half exposed to co2 after some days you should test that leaf by using iodine solution. First you should pour the iodine solution to all the leaf after removing the koh solution.now you can see that the half leaf which is exposed to co2 looks in bluish colour and remaining half which is kept in koh sloution doesn't show that bluish colour. so we can say that starch is not present in that half of the leaf.Because the bluish colour indicates the presence of starch.
So from this we can know that co2 is essential for photosynthesis
