Answer:when an active metal reacts with am acid a metal salt and hydrogen gas is evolved.

Explanation:

For ex:

When sodium metal reacts with dilute hydrochloric acid it gives sodium chloride and hydrogen gas.

2Na + dil.2HCl ---> 2NaCl + H2.

The hydrogen gas can be tested.

Collect the gas evolved in a test tube.then allow it to pass through a soap solution. You will observe that bubbles start evolving. When you bring a lighted matchstick near it burns with a pop sound.

Hope it helps you..
