Class limits are the smallest and largest observations in each class. In the classes 10 19, 20 29, 30 39... the least number is called the lower class limit and the greatest number is called the upper class limit. Lower class limit is 10 and upper class limit is 19in the class 10 19. Similarly in the class 20 - 29, 20 is its lower class limit and 29 is its upper class limit.  Consider the  following data :  Marks                    no: of students  0 - 10                          1 10 -20                         3 20 - 30                        8 30 -40                         15 40 - 50                        3  In this data , the upper limit of each  class the same as the lower limit of the succeeding case .Such a data is said to be continuous  Now lets take an example of non continuous data and see how is  it made continuous.  Marks                            No : of students 6 - 14                                      19 15 - 23                                     7 24 - 32                                     4 33 - 41                                     23 42 - 50                                     5  For making this data continuous , we subtract 0.5 from each lower limit , for example from 6 ,and add 0.5 each upper limit , for example adding 0.5 to 14.  The data will become in this form.  Mark                               No: of students (class - limits )  5.5 - 14.5                              19 14.5 - 23.5                             7 23.5 - 32.5                             4 32.5 - 41.5                             23 41.5 - 50.5                             5  The new class limits obtained in this manner are called true class limits.
