(a) Sponge though compressible is a solid.
(b) Rubber band though stretchable is a solid.

Yes, sponge is a solid. Although sponge has small pores which traps air however it releases the same when the sponge is pressed and by this we are able to compress it. This helps the sponge to regain its shape and mass.

Similarly, rubber band is also solid as it has definite shape and volume. If any force is applied to stretch it, only then it changes the shape however it regains the shape due to its intermolecular force of attraction.

(a) In minute pores of sponge air is trapped. When pressed, air is expelled out so it is compressible. It is a solid as it has definite shape and volume. 

(b) Rubber band changes shape under force and regain shape when force is removed.
