Baking soda , as the name suggest is the major constituent of baking powder . Chemically it is sodium hydrogen carbonate , also called sodium bicarbonate.

preparation of Baking soda 

baking soda or sodium hydrogen carbonate is prepared from brine as discussed in the commercial preparation of washing soda .
NaCl+NH3+CO2+H2O→NaHCO3+NH4Cl
Since it is only slightly soluble in water , it can be removed by filtration.

Uses of Baking Soda:-
1) baking soda in baking powder-  baking soda I used in baking powder with tartaric acid(C6H6O6).baking powder is normally  added to the dough to be used for making cake or bread. when the dough is baked or heated,sodium hydrogen carbonate releases carbon dioxide gas.
2NaHCO3→Na2CO3+H2O+CO2

Baking soda as antacid - we can use sodium hydrogen carbonate to cure acidity  I n our stomach.
NaHCO3+ HCl →NaCl+H2O+CO2

Baking soda in fire extinguishers-  baking soda is uses in soda acid fire extinguishers

baking soda is a chemical compound. it is made up sodium Bi- carbonate. it manufactured by SOLVAY process using sodium chloride
