The transmission system is known as the T-carrier system. The T1 carrier is the fundamental building block of the multiplexing hierarchy. The T1 carrier consists of 24 voice channels that are sampled, digitized and encoded to a PCM signal. The transmission rate onto the T1 carrier is 1.544 Mbps.
