What are Respiratory System Disorders?

“Respiratory disorders or diseases are diseases of lungs and human airways that affect human respiration.”

A disorder is defined as a state of irregular functioning of the body. The respiratory system disorders or respiratory diseases are the medical terms used to study about the various types of infections, allergies and other diseases related to the different organs, tissues and specialized cells of the human respiratory system.

The respiratory system mainly consists of the upper respiratory tract, alveoli, bronchi, bronchioles, trachea, pleura, and pleural cavity. The common cold is an example of mild respiratory disorders and other serious and life-threatening respiratory disorders include pneumonia, lung cancer and asthma, influenza, tuberculosis, etc.

There are several factors associated with respiratory system disorders. Few of these factors include:

Bacterial and viral infections.

Causes of Respiratory Disorders

Respiratory diseases are caused due to exposure to pollutants, smoking, passively inhaling the tobacco smoke, asbestos, radon, etc.

Disorders of the respiratory system:-

1)Asthma:- Asthma ise difficulty in breathing caused due to inflammation of bronchial and bronchioles.It si characterized by the Smash of smooth muscles present in the walls of the bronchi and bronchioles .Symptoms includes coughing difficulty in breathing and wheezing .In the case of asthma the alagan causes release of histamine and other inflammatory substances which cause construction of the bronchi .

2)Emphysema:- Emphysema is a chronic disorder in which alveolar walls are damaged and their walls due to which respiratory surface area of exchange of gases is decreased .The long shows larger but your alveoli are more fibrous and less elastic .One of the major causes of this is smoking of tobacco .

3)Bronchitis:- Bronchitis is the information of the bronchi resulting in the spelling of mucous lining of bromchi increased mucus production and decrease in the diameter of bronchi.Symptoms include chronic cough with thick mucus .

4)Pneumonia:- Pneumonia is infection of lungs caused by bacteria such a Streptococcus pneumoniae and also by certain viruses like fungi Protozoa and mycoplasmas .Symptom include inflammation of lungs accumulation of mucus in alveoli and impaired exchange of gases leading to death if untreated .

Emphysema , Chronic bronchitis and asthma come under chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases.
