Answer:

There were many reasons for the French Revolution to start:-

1) One of the main factors was the unbalanced structure of society during the old regime. People got privileges based upon their birth.

2) Depletion of the treasury of king. Under king Louis XVI, France helped the 13 American colonies to gain independence from the British.

3) King had a very mediocre knowledge.

4) People were unsatisfied with the pattern of voting in the estates general.

5) The population of France drastically increased from 13 million to 18 million in 1789, which led to the sudden increase in the demand for grain. Bread, which was the staple diet of the people, could not keep pace with demand. This led to a subsistence crisis, something which happened frequently in France during the Old Regime.

French society in the eighteenth century was divided into three estates and only the members of the third estate had to pay taxes. The wars had drained the financial resources of France and let the treasury being empty. Subsistence crisis emerged as the population rose high.

On 5th May 1789, Louise XVI called together a meeting of estate generals to pass proposals for new taxes. This time the king was determined to continue the same practice. But members of the third estate demanded that voting more be conducted by the assembly as a whole. When the king rejected the proposal, the members of the third estate walked out of the Ashly in protest.

On 20 June they assembled in the hall of an indoor tennis court and swore not to leave till they had drafted a constitution for France that would limit the powers of the monarch. This is how the outbreak of Revolution take place.
