<> Gravity

>> Gravity is a force of which tries to pull two objects toward each other.

>> A stone dropped from a height falls towards the earth because the earth exerts a force of attraction (called gravity) on the stone and pulls it down.

>> It is said that once the greatest English scientist Isaac Newton was sitting in his garden under an apple tree when an apple from the tree fell him. Newton said that an apple falls down the tree towards the earth because the earth exerts a ' force of attraction' on the apple in the downward direction. This force of attraction exerted by earth is called its gravity.

>> Similarly, a leaf falls down from a tree due to gravity of earth. In fact , the earth attracts (or pull) all the objects towards its centre.

>> The force with which the earth pulls the objects towards it is called the gravitational force of the earth or gravity of the earth.

"Welcome to the world of Newtonian Physics".

Gravity It is the force by which earth attract any object towards itself (centre) is called gravity.

Represented by small "g".

There is difference between gravitational force and the gravity :-

Gravitational force →It is also a force act between the every body of the universe by virtue of their masses.

While,

Gravity → It is the force of attraction only between the earth and any object.

Some facts about gravity:-

  • Gravity is maximum at the pole and minimum at the equators.
  • When we go upward or inward from the center of the earth it's value decreases.

It is the force of gravity which binds all things on the earth.

It's value is 9.8 ~10 m/s^2.

maximum value at the poles :- 9.83 m/s^2.

minimum value at the equator :- 9.78 m/s^2.

Value of g varies because the earth is not completely round. It is flat at the poles and rise at the equator.

just like the shape of an orange.

Some examples of gravity exerted by earth are :-

  • When we throw a stone it comes back to the surface of earth.
  • Falling down of rain, snow due to gravity.

Gravity, produces acceleration in body also known as acceleration due to gravity.
