Compounds having same molecular formula but differ in physical and chemical qualities due to different structures are called ISOMERS.
It is of 2 types-
1.STRUCTURAL ISOMERISM
2.STEREOISOMERISM

TAUTOMERISM and METAMERISM are types of structural isomerism.

Metamerism is a type of isomerism due to different in nature of alkyl groups attatched to the polyvalent atom of the functional group. Example-
C4H10O has following isomers-
1.CH₃CH₂CH₂Oh
2.CH₃CHOHCH₂CH3
3.CH₃CHCH₂OH
4.neo-COH
5.CH₃OCH₂CH₂CH₃
6.CH₃OCHCH₃CH₃
7.CH₃CH₂OCH₂CH₃
5. and 6. are positional isomers.
5. and 7. are metamers.

Tautomerism is due to spontaneous interconversion of two isometric forms with different functional groups into each other.
Example-
Acetaldehyde(ALDEHYDE) and Vinyl alcohol(ALCOHOL)
