Explain about Jagirdars

jagirdars means ; jagir :land, dar:owner
means who have more land

  1. Jagirdars were the officials of kings who were often gifted huge lands as a gift of their service to the empire.
  2. The land gifted to them was not at all inheritable i.e. their sons/daughters could not own the land gifted to their father/mother.
  3. Even jagirdars were promoted or demoted on the basis of the work they serve to their kings.
  4. The jagirdars owning more area of land were dominant over the once having less area of land.
  5. These dominant jagirdars also enjoyed police jurisdiction.
  6. Since, these jagirdars were not permanent holders of the land so they wanted to extract more and more revenue from their are of land.
