Explain about ozone layer depletion, causes, effects and control measures.
Answers
Ozone is an oxygen compound which is present in the stratosphere of the earth’s atmosphere. The ozone layer in the atmosphere absorbs harmful ultraviolet rays. The Ultraviolet rays from the sun are harmful to skin and these rays have tendency to cause cancer and other genetic diseases. So, this layer protects all the organism from UV rays. The Ozone layer is damaged due to chemicals compounds produced by automobiles and factories.
Causes: The chemical compounds like Chlorofluorocarbon, carbon tetrachloride, etc are the compounds which deplete the ozone layer.
Effects: The damage to the ozone layer causes skin cancer, skin evoked rash, and cataracts.
Control measures: Reduction of harmful compound production and one should use sunscreen cream to protect themselves from ultraviolet rays. All should plant as many trees as possible to produce more oxygen and purify the air we breathe from these chemical compounds.
