to find number of isomers in organic compound, find the atomic mass and divide it by the total number of molecules.

The number of isomers could not be found using any formula because there’s no formula to calculate the number of isomers in organic compound. A certain number of carbons can branch out even though they are unstable and do not really exist. Consider the example C4H10.

Here it represents both butane and also 2-methylpropane.

The first ten are:

Number of carbons   ->  Number of structural isomers

0 -> 1

1 -> 1

2 -> 1

3 -> 1

4 -> 2

5 -> 3

6 -> 5

7 -> 9

8 -> 18

9 -> 35

10 -> 75
