⏩⏩ when two sets of progressive waves of same amplitude, frequency, wavelength are travelling with same speed superimpose with each other but travelling from opposite directions then resultant wave formed is called as stationary or standing wave. in these waves there are certain points in the medium which are permanently at rest i.e. their displacement is zero and these points are called as nodes. there are certain other points of the medium which vibrate about the mean position with largest amplitude. these points are called antinodes.

=> In standing waves, the particle comprising the wave remains fixed at one point.
=> Thus, the wave does not moving at all.
=> It is produced if the two wave of same amplitude and frequency travel through a medium in opposite direction.
