1. William Hornby, the governor of Bombay approved the building of the Great Sea Wall to prevent the flooding of Bombay.
2. Both private and government companies tried to reclaim land for commercial purposes.
3. The Back Bay Reclamation company got rights to reclaim land from the Malabar hill to Colaba.
4. The Bombay Port trust built the port bay, marine drive and the 22 acre ballad estate.
5. 22 square kilometres of land was reclaimed.
