The Government of India launches the National Heritage City Development and Augmentation Yojana in 2015.  The main objective to start this scheme is to focus the aggregate development of tradition cities. From the initiation of this programme, around 500 crores have been spent in 12 identified cities such as Ajmer, Amaravati, Amritsar, Badami, Dwarka, Gaya, Kanchipuram, Mathura, Puri, Varanasi, Velankanni and Warangal.  For these cities the development of water supplies, cleanliness, infrastructure, road facilities, street lights have been initiated.
