Planets in Our Solar System

There are eight planets that move around the Sun. They are Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn and Neptune.

Jupiter is the largest and Mercury is the smallest planet in our solar system. Mercury is the closest and Neptune is the farthest planet from the Sun. Saturn has beautiful rings around it. These rings are made up of dust, rock and ice.

The planets move in a fixed path called an orbit. The closer the planet to the Sun, the smaller is its path or orbit. The planet Mercury travels once around the in just 88 days, the Earth takes 365 days and 6 hours while Neptune takes 164 years to complete its orbit.

Mercury and Venus are very hot as they are closer to the sun. Uranus and Neptune are so far away from the Sun that they receive very little of its heat. Therefore, they are very cold planets. Scientists believe that there can be no living thing on these planets. Earth please perhaps the only Planet with get the correct amount of the sun's heat and light to make life possibl.
