The Treaty of Vienna was organised in the year 1815. The European powers such as Britain,Russia, Prussia and Austria who defeated Napoleon in the battle of Waterloo sent their representatives who met at Vienna to drew up a settlement for Europe. This congress was hosted by the Austrian Chancellor , Duke Metternich . With the objective of undoing the changes brought by Napoleon, following steps were taken :-
1) The Bourbon dynasty which was overthrown by Napoleon during the French revolution was restored to power and France lost the territories which were annexed under Napoleonic rule.
2) States were set up at the boundary of France to stop further expansion.
3) In this the kingdom of Netherlands , included in Belgium was set up in North and Genoa was added to Piedmont in the south.
4) Important territories were given to Prussia on its western frontiers and Austria was given northern Italy.
5) In the east Russia was given a part of Poland and Prussia was given a part of Saxony. But the German Confederation of 39 states , set up by Napoleon was not even touched.
The main objective was to restore the monarchies dethroned by Napoleon and create a new conservative order.
