See, we can even take a, a+d, a+2d, a+3d, a+4d, a+5d. But, to make calculations easy, we reduce values from each side. Hence, we get the equation.

if u know the first term and the common difference..
let the first term be '' a''and the common difference be '' d''
then the next few terms r..
a, a+d , a+2d , a+3d , a+4d, a+5d , a+6d .....
to find the nth term of ap is = a + (n-1) d..
