Hi

●Adipose tissue is what is commonly called “body fat.” People often despise the concept of body fat, but that is due to societal constraints and has no bearing on actual biology.

--》Adipose tissue has three basic functions, which I will explain briefly below.

1) Energy storage - The main function of adipose tissue is in energy storage. This enables the body to continue to function properly in adverse conditions when other sources of energy are not available. That is, if needed, your body metabolizes the adipose tissue, which preserves other tissues such as muscles that would otherwise be metabolized. It is only after the adipose tissue is metabolized that the body will turn to more drastic measures.

2) Cushioning - Adipose tissue is made up largely of fats, which serve as great cushioning for organs and other, more delicate tissues. A healthy amount of adipose tissue will serve as a sort of “shock absorber” for your body.

3) Insulation - I have to give a huge thank you to the suggested questions to my right, as one question hinted at this, and I had completely forgotten about this important function of adipose tissue. Similarly to the support it provides, adipose tissue acts as a sort of insulation for your body, helping you to retain your body heat. This means that overall, your body will have to expend less energy to maintain equilibrium.

--》In short, this is why adipose (fat) tissue is important. While it does have a negative reputation, it serves essential biological functions, and is a component of a healthy human being. Do not fear a healthy amount of adipose tissue.
