Ethanol is an organic alcohol of molecular formula C2H5OH , and that of ethanoic acidis an organic carboxylic acid of molecular formula , CH3COOH.
So in order to convert to ethanol to ethanoic acid , we need to oxidise the alcohol and get the desired product.
This can be achieved by reacting the alcohol with a strong oxidising agent.
The suitable agents areKMnO4/OH−KMnO4/OH− and heat , acidified K2Cr2O7K2Cr2O7 , CrO3/H2SO4CrO3/H2SO4(Jones reagent ) and there are number of them. Just add any one of them to ethanol and get the product ethanoic acid.
