It is a combination of two words. Anu+Usha. Usha/Ushas means dawn. “Oshati aandhakaaram iti Usha.” It means that which melts darkness. Thus it is the morning effulgence which dissolves darkness. Anoosha/Anusha means ‘Usham anusrutya’ meaning, Morning/Bright, pleasant morning.
Esoterically, ‘Light’ is associated with Knowledge and ‘Andhakara’ is associated with ‘Ignorance’. In this sense Usha means the dawn/Goddess of knowledge who melts ignorance and bestows the ‘Light of Knowledge’.
Anusha is also another name for ‘Anuradha’ the seventeenth star.
