Salient features of the French Constitution of 1791 . The Constitution of 1791 was a great step forward in French history.
1) Hence France became a constitutional monarchy.
2) Concentration of power gave place to separation of powers between legislature, executive and judiciary.
3) The legislative assembly was to be indirectly elected by men above the age of 25 years.
Those who belonged to high bracket of tax payers, got the right to vote and to get voted.
4) Feudal privileges were abolished.
5) Church was nationalised and people were guaranteed religious freedom.
6) Most importantly the Constitution adopted the Declaration of the Rights of Man and Citizen . These rights belonged to each human being by birth and could not be taken away.
