WAV audio files were developed for Windows - based platform by Microsoft.  This is widely used by many other software companies.  It also takes-up large storing space for single files.  It is like AIFF file.

MP3 – has become universally hit audio player because of its capacity to let the audience hear only up to the range they can hear.  It has the capacity to cut out all the extra sounds which are very less to hear.  It gets its name from MPEG-1 and Audio Layer-3 as it is designed by MPEG group.  All the digital devices which we have today can read MP3 format files

AIFF: It was developed to store audio in Mac computers. Apple developed this and it occupies more storage space.  AIFF comes as uncompressed audio format and lossless audio format

WMA – Windows Media Audio was developed by Microsoft.  It was developed to solve the short-comings of MP3 during compression.  But, it is not a popular format because it is not compatible with many devices

FLAC – It is has a Lossless Audio format and it is available for Free.  It does not any strict licensing with regard to its usage.  An audio file’s size can be compressed and reduced.  For this, the sound quality is not sacrificed.  It is very popular than ALAC, founded by Apple
