The reasons why the Russian people wanted the Tsar to withdraw from the First World War because:

1. Russia experienced heavy defeats against Germany during the first two and a half years of the war. Though it had significant successes against Austria-Hungary.

2. The war was very unpopular in Russia as the Russian death toll was enormous.

3. There was food shortage in the country as a consequence of the war.

4. Though the public had sympathy for Serbia most of the Russians felt that the country would not gain much from the war.

5. People had lost confidence in Tsar Nicholas II. The Tsar was not in touch with the people. They felt that he had become a puppet in the hands of his German-born wife or special-interest groups.
