Blood clotting is useful when the human body gets cuts and wounds. It can be external and internal and it is also known as Haemorrhage.

Blood clotting or Haemostasis is the process which stops blood flow. The major steps in clotting of blood are as follows:

Vasoconstriction – Blood vessels constrict, bring down volume of blood in the region.

Blockage of cut – Platelets form a plug on the wound, blocking blood flow.

Coagulation – Blood thickens and a fibrin clot is formed stopping blood flow completely.

Healing of the wound – Tissues heal and cause a thick layer to form, closing the wound completely.
