  • During the British colonial administration, there was a low level of economic development. Their policies ruined the traditional method of handicrafts as well as discouraged the industrial development. It results in the failure of economic growth, population control and lack of job opportunities.
  • Green Revolution with the spread of irrigation created many job opportunities in the agricultural sector. However, the benefit does not reach all parts of the country. Inadequate jobs and wage earners could not afford to run their family.  
  • Many other socio-cultural factors such as religious ceremonies and economic factors such as poor people’s high level of indebtedness are responsible for poverty in India.
