Explain any three economic condition of France that lead to revolution
Answers
Answer:
Pre-Revolutionary France had 3 estates namely 1st estate,2nd estate and the 3rd. The 1st estate consisted of the clergy and the 2nd consisted of Nobility. The 1st and 2nd estate did not had to pay any taxes although they could afford to do so for they were rich. The entire burden of paying tax were on the shoulders of 3rd estate. The 3rd estate consisted of the middle class (doctors, lawyers, teachers) and the peasants who were mostly peasants, vagabonds, wage earners and people like them. Although the middle class were rich but the majority of 3rd estate consisted of the poorer section of people.Again the taxation system was faulty. There were 2 types of taxes- Direct and the Indirect. The indirect taxes were collected by the farmers general. They were dishonest people, they collected higher taxes from people and kept the money for themselves. As a result although the tax was increased every time, correct amount of money never went to the treasury. When Finance Minister of King Louis XVI Calonne drew up a proper plan the 1st and 2nd estates revolted for they knew that their privileges would be taken away. Again the entire burden fell on the 3rd estate. How long can people suffer. So a Revolution broke out.
