The rich biodiversity which includes various species of plants, animals, microscopic organisms is important to keep the ecosystem healthy, balanced and thriving. The three major threats to the rich biodiversity of India are -
Industrial pollution - The industries release dangerous chemicals into the atmosphere and dump wastes and plastic into the rivers and other water bodies. These pollutants have a negative effect on various species and disrupt the ecosystem.
Over exploitation - There is a loss of biodiversity due to over hunting, over fishing and over harvesting. Poaching and hunting for profit increases the risk of extinction of some species.
Deforestation - Indiscriminate cutting of forests leads to the extinction and loss of biodiversity.
