National Population Policy was implemented in the year 2000. Its main features are : (1) It provides a policy framework for imparting free and compulsory education upto 14 years of age. (2) It aims at reducing Infant Mortality Rate to below 30 per 1000 live births. (3) Its objective is to achieve universal immunization of children against all vaccine preventable diseases. (4) It promotes delayed marriage for girls. (5) It makes family welfare a people centred programme by improving individual health.
