1-They thought that the Sinhalese should dominate the whole country.

2-They favoured the buddhist type of goverment .

3 Leaders of the Sri lankan government where mostly narrow minded. They did not think about the people.

4-The democratically elected government in Sri Lanka adopted a series of majoritarian measures to establish Sinhala Supremacy.

5-In 1956, an act was passed to recognise Sinhala as the only official language, thus disregarding Tamil. The government followed preferential policies that favoured Sinhala applicants for university positions and government jobs. A new constitution stipulated that the state shall protect and foster Buddhism.

5-All these government measures, coming one after the other, gradually increased the feeling of alienation among the Sri Lankan Tamils.

7-As a result, the relations between the Sinhala and Tamil communities strained over time which even resulted in the Civil War.
