Bolivia is a poor country in latin America.
World Bank pressurised the govt. to give up its control over water supply. Govt. sold these rights to a multinational company. Company increased the price of water by four times. This led to a spontaneous popular protest.
in jan. 2000, a new alliance of labour, human rights and community leaders formed FEDECOR and started a general strike in the city.......
govt. agreed to negotiation and strike ended
But nothing chngd nd agitation began once again. Police resorted to brutal repression.
Another strike followed in April.
power of people forced the officials MNC to flee the city and govt. accepted all the demands.
