1) Dessicator means the apparatus which dries compounds. Fuses CaCl2 has avgreat affinity for water and is highly hygroscopic, so it absorbs water..thus used in a dessicator.
2) Concentrated sulphuric acid is highly hygroscopic..so it absorbs water...thus it should be stoppered.
When reducing agents like sulphur dioxide gas is treated with pink coloured KMnO4 solution, the colour turns colourless...
