Various factors, both lying within and outside India influence the climate of India. The chief among them are the following -
Latitude- due to the curvature of the Earth, the amount of solar energy recieved varies according to latitude. As a result, air temperature decreases from the equator towards the poles, which in turn determines the climate of a place,
Altitude- As one goes from the surface of the earth to higher altitudes, the atmosphere becomes less dense and temperature decreases, which in turn affects the climate.
The Pressure and Wind system- This system depends upon the latitude and altitude of a place. The pressure and Wind system exerts a profound influence on the climate of any place as it controls the temperature and rainfall pattern.
Distance from the Sea- The sea exerts a moderating influence on climate, so distance from the sea isa major factor determining the climate of a place.
Ocean currents-These along with on shore winds affect the climate of a place, e.g., any coastal area with warm or cold currents flowing past it, will be warmed or colled if the winds are onshore
