explain briefly how gaseous exchange and other components are transported at cellular level
Answers
✳ Basically, the one word answer to this question is Diffusion of gases through the body surface of cell.
⏹ What is Diffusion?
The process of movement of substances(solids, liquids and gases) from the region of higher concentration to lower concentration is known as Diffusion. It is due to the difference in concentration (concentration gradient)
⏹ Coming to your question!
Diffusion can occur in the cell. The cell membrane allows entry and exit of gases like Carbon dioxide (Co2) and oxygen (O2) by diffusion. Co2 is a cellular waste and need to excreted otherwise it can harm the cell by increasing the toxicity. If they accumulates inside the cell, it can be harmful in all the ways. When Co2 increases inside the cell, the amount of Co2 increases inside the cell. Co2 in the external environment of the cell is very less in compared to the inside environment i.e. cell. Due to difference in the concentration of Co2 inside and outside, gas move from inside of the cell to the outside. In the same way, Oxygen(O2) eneters the cell when the concentration of oxygen decreases inside the cell by the process of diffusion.
