According to Bronsted-lowry concept, an acid is a substance which can donate proton (H+) while a base is a substance that can accept a proton (H+) . Acid is a proton donor and base is a proton acceptor.

It was an extended version of Arrhenius concept of acids and bases.

The scientists who put forward, the concept were, Johannes Bronsted and Thomas M. Lowry.
