Mouth, also called Oral Cavity, or Buccal Cavity, in human anatomy, orifice through which food and air enter the body. The mouth opens to the outside at the lips and empties into the throat at the rear; its boundaries are defined by the lips, cheeks, hard and soft palates, and glottis.

Digestion in buccal cavity

Saliva contains electrolytes like Na+, K+, Cr+, HCO-+.

Saliva contains enzymes like salivary amylase and lysozyme.

The salivary amylase having a pH of 6.8 present in the saliva has hydrolytic action on carbohydrates.

30% of starch is hydrolysed in the mouth by the enzyme. Starch is hydrolysed into a disaccharide – maltose.

Lysozyme acts as antibacterial agent and prevents infections.

Hope it helped.
