Calcination : It is the process of converting an ores to oxide by strongly heating it in limited air.

eg : ZnCO3 -----> ZnO + CO2

Calcination :-

1 } In this process, the concentrated ore is heated in a reverberatory furnace below it's melting point, in the absence of air without addition of any external substance.


2 } Calcination is mainly done in case of carbonate or hydroxide ores.


3} Now, here r some examples,

a ] PbCO3 ➡ PbO + CO2 ⬆

b] ZnCO3 ➡ ZnO + CO2 ⬆
