Good Question

Generally people fail to distinguish between centripetal and centrifugal

As we know a uniform circular motion is a example of accelerated motion

and acceleration is towards the center. Also, acceleration changes its direction continuously, so it is a non uniform acceleration.

This acceleration towards the center is called centripetal acceleration.

Its direction is fixed.

Now, we know that to apply newton's 2nd law of motion we need to present in a inertial frame of reference, but circular motion is a non - inertial frame.

So we apply psuedo, but then why we call that psuedo as centrifugal when we can easily call it as psuedo.

Because , it psuedo force is m a(net), but centripetal is not the net force in a circular motion, as we can have a non uniform circular motion also with alpha as angular acceleration, right. So , we named a psuedo force only corresponding to centrepetal force and call it as centrifugal which act radially outwards for a circular motion. Remember, centrifugal is not the net psuedo force like I explained it earlier.
