Chloroplasts are usually known as "kitchen of cells"
Structure of Chloroplasts:
1.They have double membrane
2.have chlorophyll due to which they appear to be green in color
3.have two distinct regions, Grana and Stroma
4.usually disk-like in outline.

Functions of Chloroplasts:
1. Trap solar energy to manufacture food
2.Synthesize food.

A chloroplast is formed of two limiting membranes and two chambers so resembles a mitochondrion. Outer membrane is freely permeable while inner membrane is semipermeable. Inner chamber is filled with a denser and granular proteinaceous (about 50℅) ground substance called stroma or matrix.

It is site of dark reaction or CO2 fixation of photosynthesis and has a number of grana.
