Mendel proposed the law of segregation and the law of independent assortment to explain theinheritance behind his pea plant traits. A hundred years later, Boveri and Sutton developed the chromosome theory of inheritance, which stated thatchromosomes were responsible for the heredity Mendel observed.

Chromosomal theory of inheritance:

  • The chromosomal theory of inheritance states that genes are found at the specific location of chromosomes carry hereditary information which helps in passing the information from ancestors to offspring generation after generation providing the evidence on the existence of the species.
  • This theory was proposed by Mendal and was the most profound theory for bioresearch. Hence Gregor Mendal is called as Father of Genetic and modern science, he conducted his first experiment in pea plant.
