Colour blindness is a recessive sex linked disease. Its gene is located on X - chromosome. The colour - blind person cannot distinguish between red and green colours. Colour blindness is more common in male than in females. There are two reasons behind this : -

  1. Males have only one X - chromosome. Their Y - chromosome doesn't have gene for this character. Therefore, gene for colour blindness when present even in single dose expresses itself.
  2. Females need to be homozygous for this gene to develop  colour blindness because they have XX chromosomes. In this case, only one X - chromosome has the gene for colour blindness.
