Explanation:

Conductor /Metal: metals are substance whose velence band and conduction band are fully filled with electrons . Both conduction and velence band overlap each other. There is no forbidden gap between the bands. As the bands are filled with electrons , metals are good conductor of electricity.

Insulators: Insulators are the substance whose velence band are filled with electrons but the conduction band is completely empty . There is a large forbidden gap between the bands. There is no transfer of electrons between them.As electrons are not present in conduction band , insulators are bad conductor of electricity.

Semiconductor: Semiconductor are the substance whose velence band is completely filled with electrons but the conduction band is completely empty. Then they act as insulator .But they have very small forbidden gap between the bands. So when the electrons gain some energy they start to jump to the conduction band. As the conduction band get some electrons they starts conducting electricity. on gaining some heat/energy they act as conductors .
