The net charge of an isolated system remains constant. The only way to change the net charge of a system is to bring in charge from elsewhere, or remove charge from the system.

Charge can be created and destroyed, but only in positive-negative pairs.

Ghayasuddin1020: In physics, charge conservation is the principle that electric charge can neither be created nor destroyed. The net quantity of electric charge, the amount of positive charge minus the amount of negative charge in the universe, is always conserved.
