coupling reactions:-

Diazonium salts react with highly activated aromatic compounds to produce dyes and indicators. The reaction with phenol takes place in slightly alkaline medium while with a means it occurs in slightly acidic medium.Molecule of phenol and aniline etc are coupled with benzene diazonium chloride of position .It is a type of electrophilic substitution reaction.

It is a chemical reaction which has a Common intermediate in which energy can transferred from one side of the reaction to another .When benzene diazonium chloride reacts with phenol which the phenol molecular at its para position is coupled with the diazonium salt to form p- hydroxyazobenzene .This reaction is called Coupling reaction.
